So I've been binge watching the entire Dragon Ball anime series since around June, starting from the Pilaf arc. And I gotta say, is it me or is the Boo arc adaption kinda amazing? Granted I'm still only in the early portions of the arc (Goten vs Trunks), so it's possible the quality could go downhill, but still.

To start with, not only is the animation pretty damn good, but it's consistently good. Obviously I don't mean literally every episode is top-notch, but the change between episodes is far less noticeable than previous arcs if memory serves correct. Like I said, that could change later on, though I can't help but doubt that when seeing some clips of the final showdown with Pure Boo.

The score is just... wow, Kikuchi you are a fucking genius. He's always been my favorite composer, but some of the new tracks (the Great Saiyaman theme being the biggest example) sounds like music that came straight from the heavens.

As far as filler goes (particularly the Great Saiyaman episodes), I didn't see any issue with it. At worst some of them were throwaway stories, and at best they served to enhance Gohan and Videl's relationship. The pacing is exceptionally good too as far as I'm concerned.

Given that, so far I'd say that I prefer the anime version of this arc over the manga by a great deal.

For the early portions, the anime probably does things better with the Great Saiyaman filler being used to good effect in fleshing Gohan's character as a teenager out more so than the manga where it was a bit too short lived. The animation and art in general is some of the best in the franchise and the ost is glorious.

Unfortunately, filler causes the overall quality of the arc to be brought down significantly with such inconsistencies as #18 putting up a fight against SSJ Goten and Trunks, the kids fighting Popo, the inside Boo fights and the infamous Pure Boo being the strongest, which all heavily damage the anime's ability to tell a consistent story.

It's a terrible 100 episodes with very good moments, my favorites being Hogan in high school, the kid buu fight, and The Hercule and Buu friendship.

Everyone debates about whether he was a SSJ or SS2 against Dabura, but nobody takes a second to acknowledge the greatness in that fight when he when he asked Macho Demon Daburandy Savage "Watcha gonna do when my half-Saiyan pythons run wild on you, brotha?!"
