Technically, Earth is considered a small planet by DB standards as implied by Freeza.

It's part of Toriyama's inconsistencies that a lot of people doesn't care. You can argue the fact that the density of planet Namek is greater than Earth or whatever.

I think a strong warrior could control their ki to prevent instant destruction, otherwise a planet would vaporize from casual combat. /head canon
