Cell vs Goku Analysis

[SSJ2]

Round 1

• Cell invites Goku to attack. Goku rushes in and kicks Cell, who blocks it with effort.

• Goku punches and Cell blocks. Cell swipes at Goku who dodges.

• Goku and Cell parry a bunch of blows resulting in Goku being sent backwards. Cell flies in with speed and rams Goku.

• Goku gets underneath Cell and kicks him skyward. Jumps up and fires a weak Kamehameha which Cell deflects. Goku uses this to get behind Cell and punch him in the back, making him visibly mad.

This concludes the warmup. I think the battle looks directly even up until Cell gets mad when Goku tricks him. He seems to raise his effort slightly to get two hits off on Goku and slam him into the ring. The end of the fight prompts this statement:

Both fighters acknowledge each other, but Goku realizes that he can't have any missteps or the fight will be over immediately. For the warm up, I'm thinking:

Round 2

• Second round commences with Cell giving Goku a free start. Goku gets in three powerful blows, then punches Cell into the ring. Cell gathers himself and compliments Goku with a smile on his face.

• Cell launches the KHH causing Goku to teleport behind him and kick him across the ring. Goku tells Cell he can teleport, which Cell calls "annoying".

• When the battle commences, Cell ramps up his speed and power, clearly taking Goku by surprise.

• With the increase, Cell elbows Goku. Goku tries to punch back which Cell dodges. Cell elbows him in the back of the head and forces him into the ring on all fours. Goku springs skyward, but Cell is much faster and appears behind him slamming him into the ring again.

• Cell appears behind Goku on the ring and taunts his speed.

• Cell punches Goku in the face, then tries the same again which Goku ducks out of the of.

• Goku kicks Cell skyward and teleports behind him. Goku swipes at Cell, but Cell dodges and appears directly behind him. Goku narrowly dodges Cell's smash. Cell blows up the ring.

• Cell launches two ki lasts at Goku, who dodges both with effort. Goku jumps up out of the smoke and uses the Shunkan Ido Kamehameha.

That ends round 2. Goku looks impressive early in the round due to Cell allowing him to hit him. He uses his teleportation to get behind Cell, prompting Cell to raise his effort to dominate the rest of the fight. Goku is trying his absolute best just to dodge these attacks, he is visibly taking more damage and working harder than Cell. I'd numerically place it like this:

Goku: 100
Cell initial: 105
Cell increased power and speed: 115

I think a gap of this magnitude is fair. To me it looks like Goku is doing a bit better than Zarbon was able to do against 24k Vegeta, and I have that gap slightly larger than 87%.

Round 3

• Cell regenerates from the KHH and Goku says Cell spent a lot of his ki. Cell counters to say Goku has as well.

• Goku charges at Cell who dodges his punch. Goku then blocks a kick from Cell, followed by the two both taking a hit each off-panel.

• Cell punches Goku into the rocks, Goku gets up and fires a ki barrage at Cell, connecting. Cell was forced to put up his barrier and both fighters were huffing and puffing. Cell compliments Goku for forcing the barrier.

• Roshi comes in and says that it only looks like the fight is even, yet Goku is the one who is losing. Cell taunts Goku telling him to eat a senzu bean and the fight ends.

Round 3 looked the most even to me out of the 3. Both fighters were getting in solid blows, and Goku even forced Cell to use his invincible barrier. Goku was losing ki at a much faster rate due to having no reserves, yet Cell still had a ton of power in the bank so he wasn't draining as fast. I'd say it was completely equal, but the ki barrage took a lot of Goku's strength, prompting Roshi's comment that Goku was going to lose.

MSSJ Goku vs Cell was a Vegeta/Zarbon like gap, until Cell's regeneration made it even. Here, i said in one line

Round 1 of Goku vs Cell is there warm up round.

Goku is at his Inital Super Saiyan Power. This is the max power he is capable of before powering up. This is essentially his base Super Saiyan power.

Same goes for Cell, he's at his base power, the one in which he beat up Vegeta and Trunks.


This fight just showcases a solid warm up, in which they fight evenly and Goku takes the lead with his superior skill, Goku is not going balls to the wall here and neither is Cell. Goku gets the advantage and this pisses Cell off who in turn, uses his full effort. I think the powers here are very even and the reason Cell is able to pull ahead at the end is because he was really trying, whereas Goku and he had not been previously. I could see a slight edge in power for Cell here, but not much, they are basically equals.

I've got:

Vegeta: 24k
Zarbon: 20.5k = 85.4%
Dodoria: 20k = 83%

So Goku vs Cell is a touch closer than that in the peak of the battle.

I think these numbers are vastly superior to what AT presented us with.

1) Vegeta vs Cui was such an extreme blowout, 1.33x does not seem to be enough. That is a 1.5x gap at minimum if I ever saw one, Vegeta completely GodStomps Cui. You cannot compare this fight to KKx3 Goku vs Vegeta or Reecome vs Vegeta.

2) Vegeta talks about Dodoria and Zarbon in a way that suggests a significant different in power. Vegeta/Cui level being 90% doesn't seem right. I feel like the way Dodoria is presented, he's a powerhouse. He probably could fight and do very well against the two of them at the same time. And Zarbon even further. I like to have enough space between Dodoria and Vegeta/Cui Level.

3) 22,23,24 just doesn't work. Vegeta had blowout fights with all three of them, there should be significant differences between them and Vegeta for sure.


I think Goku vs Cell could very well be 90% on the nose. I'd put Zarbon vs Vegeta at 88% based on that.

If full power SSJ Goku is 100, then I'd put powered up Perfect Cell at 110.

Ssj2, I would also add in the relation of the powers to the others. For example, post ki blast barrage, Goku is below a Cell Junior, yet Cell is still strong enough that the rest of the group teaming up won't be able to get the job done if I remember correctly.

I also think that they can't do much when Goku vs Cell is even in Round 3. That level is still far too above them. Let's get some numbers going.

P, what do you think of this point? When Goku lost his aura and dropped his power back to Base level, the likes of Vegeta were shocked that the fight was over, and Vegeta seemed to think it meant the end of the Cell Games, as did Cell. I find it weird that they are so dumbfounded if SSJ Goku was below them at that point. Perhaps Goku continued to weaken as he was sitting around?

I guess we have to go with that. It is a weird transition period that shouldn't happen. Same with Post ki Drain Vegeta. Another questionable decision. Let's put up the panels with their reactions, perhaps they were depending on him taking a sensu bean?

I don't think they were counting on him using a bean, at least not Vegeta who yells at Trunks for even bringing up the bean.

It's an odd situation. Vegeta states that Goku would lose if he didn't eat a bean, but then he goes insnae when Goku ends the fight on his own terms.

I'd say so. I think he was draining pretty fast when he used the ki barrage at the end of the fight, so I'm sure he kept on draining due to being low power as it was. Eventually he becomes trash to even Piccolo.

Yeah, Vegeta seems pissed that Goku was already forfeiting. It's like he was hoping Goku could wear Cell down even a slight amount more or something.
