Toriyama is an average writer who wrote an average Manga, but there's still some things I like about his series.

- He's good at creating tension. Dragon Ball is a rather simple story, but there's a good deal of instances where he hypes up the hero or villain well, even if you know the heroes will win. Take Freeza for example... Huge amount of charisma and extremely powerful when he was introduced.
- He's good at creating gag moments for a Shonen Author. Take for example early Dragon Ball. It may have been a weak start, but it was filled with nothing but gags.
- He has notable mental strength. Dragon Ball ended up being extremely popular, and he still pulled through... Much better than Togashit.

I've always thought dbz had an amazing blend of comedy and seriousness.

I also always thought dbz had really good build up

Not a lot of anti climactic scenes

Female characters and romance: I hate a lot of female anime characters. Chi chi is annoying some times but that's my only complaint. No unneccessary romance drama. When it's there it's either not too much or it's made into a joke. He even said he's not good when it comes to writing romances so he makes it funny. I think that's awesome of him

He wrote the series without planning any of it and most if not all of it worked out. That's impressive

Dbz will always have my favorite designs

I might write more later

I'm no Mangu critic so idk what to say, really. Dragon Ball isn't fantastic, but it's still decent and entertaining with a lot to debate, apparently.

Nice work, :troll .

Aside from what's been said...

- Whilst not taking as many risks in boosting his writing quality, it still ended up somewhat more solid than other long Shonen of it's time, since the plot only started to show glaring holes from the Cell Arc and onward. Prior to that, the only massive hole was Vegeta saying he was the strongest in the universe during the Saiyan Arc.
- The manga had good pacing, especially part 1.

He's really good at turning bad guys into protagonist and side characters, who end up getting pretty interesting character arcs latter on (Vegeta and Piccolo to be sure).
