Could the others have saved Goku if Piccolo fought Android 20/Gero?

Instead of Vegeta arriving, if Piccolo took on Android 20 could Gohan, Krillin, Tien and Yamcha have dealt with Android 19 for long enough for Piccolo to defeat A20 and then as a team defeat A19?

They don't need to defeat him. If they can last long enough to keep A19 away from Gero and Piccolo, then if Piccolo gets the job done fast enough he can help out against A19. Piccolo seemed a good deal stronger than Gero.

Doubtful they could do much at all against 19. Piccolo warned them not to approach 20 when they were searching for him as only he and Vegeta could handle him. Unless 19 wastes time absorbing them all individually, they would all die near instantly and then Piccolo would lose to the 19/20 combo.
