Gohan was the kewwwwlest then, but maybe AT chose to go that way story-wise because Goku was becoming ooooooooooooold.

I wonder what the perception was of the early Boo arc when the manga was in production. Goku was out of the picture for a while and all of the spotlight was in Gohan. For whatever reason I never liked this section when I was a kid, but nowadays I enjoy that part of the story a lot. I definitely think Gohan could have continued as the protagonist but I guess Toriyama didn't agree.

CC’s reasoning in there is interesting. He’s basically implying that the Boo arc should’ve been the series’ peak in terms of popularity, if not all the way through then at least by the end. But I’m pretty sure Toriyama’s editor(?) has said that Freeza was by far the peak of the series’ popularity.

Yeah, like 815/1000 votes in popularity-poll. Which is a peak that has not been surpassed in the history of WEEKLY-JUMP.
