Did Cell attemped on getting involved in physical fight upon returning?

Given how he use more ki blasts than physical punches (being only Vegeta one he used) makes me believe he ain't thinking on fighting Gohan or others.

He could catch Trunks off guard through the dust, if I remember right. And Vegeta was weak and slow enough to handle with a blast. So no need for melee. Not sure why Cell did the kamehameha though, maybe he just wanted to see how much power he could put out after his zenkai.
