Like Frieza and Broly? I'm not asking whether they should or shouldn't but did they handle them well?

Broly was much better in the new canon because he didn't go insane over a kid crying in a crib; Freeza's return in FnF was garbo but his ToP return was ok until they made him a walking zombie (no pun intended) against Jiren and Toppo.

Manga-wise Freeza was just boring through and through and Broly was just a panel.

Broly's original origin story was so pathetic that practically anything would be an improvement. I haven't seen the new film though, so I'm not sure which I'd prefer. If character design is any indication, this one seems :trash

Freeza was just :punk

It's better than any of the original 3 Broly films, though as you said practically anything would be an improvement over the plots of those :trash . Not a good movie by any means unless you're a Gogeta fanboy though.

The short answer is no.
The explanation? Freeza's return in FnF was just a hollow rehash of the arc he starred in that just made him more pathetic from not learning from his mistake and the same can be said of his ToP self who was just trolling other fighters and touting how great he was, with what was the most impacting villain in the franchise now becoming a joke. Trunks had nothing to do in his debut arc other than offer exposition and offering him more spotlight could've been an improvement, but turning him into a generic Shonen protagonist in the anime and just more of the same in the manga wasn't the improvement he needed. Broly was an improvement as a whole with his motivations at least being somewhat consistent this time, though still not an interesting character when his LSSJ form is even more of a nothing character than his Non-Canon self. As for returning characters that got more spotlight such as Roshi or Tenshithands, they got temporary relevance through contrived means, of which even damages Roshi's character arc from the original series.

There is no sentence that begins with 'Super did a great job on...'
What about "Super did a great job on being an embarrassment to the franchise." ? :mikey

Super did a great job on showing us how good animation still can't save a bad script in every finale of every arc. :et
