Did Vegeta care about the Saiyajins being wiped out by Freeza?

... or was his grudge built solely upon the factor of him being used?

He demanded to Galu that Freeza be defeated by a Saiyan's hands, so I would say he was bullshitting to dodoria about not caring

As Kenshi said, his final moments on Namek show he cared a lot more about how the Saiyans were used than what he initially let on to Dodoria. I wouldn't doubt that he himself being used by Freeza was a bigger catalyst than the fate of his fellow Saiyans, but it doesn't seem as though their plight went completely ignored by him.

I saw some ppl on the other forum pointing out that the "must die... by a Saiyan's hands" was just his way to make Goku be more heartless and embrace his Saiyajin's heritage.

It's a good argument. Vegeta did seem to change his style once Goku arrived.

I take it as him considering killing his father and his race as a personal slight. Similar to when Cell killed Trunks and Vegeta was angry that someone killed his son, not because he cared for Trunks, but because how dare someone kill his possession. Textbook narcissism.
He cried on Namek because it hurt his ego that Freeza used him, that he wasn't the strongest, that he wasn't going to fulfill his life ambition of being top dog and because of the above. Maybe as a child he was sad his father died due to actually loving him (we don't see his relationship with his father in detail though, so can't be sure), considering later on in life he was able to have genuine love for at least Bulma and Trunks and it seems like Saiyans can have genuine affection even without the experience of living of Earth (judging from Burdock and from Cabba), but I think on Namek it was almost entirely about his ego, if not entirely.

This seemed to be Goku's biggest takeaway from his death as well.

Pretty much this imo. It was more of a wound to his ego rather than losing his family the same way Goku reacted when Kuririn died. Although I'd say he at least felt a speck of the latter by the end of the Cell arc with Future Trunks, whether he realized it or not.

I'd honestly doubt Vegeta cares one bit about his father. He probably treated him as a means of continuing the royal lineage, basically loving him as a trophy.

Vegeta likely didn't learn what compassion and familial love was until he had a family of his own and had been around humans long enough, due to the way Saiyans were raised and how his royalty and birth strength put him in a higher position that didn't afford him that shit. Once he had a family, he probably did feel some type of way toward his father and even his whole race, but it's kind of too late for that.
