Do any of these gaps between heroes needs to be that big?

We have the definitive scalling between these sections according to the story:

Androids saga: SSJ Vegeta > SSJ Goku > SSJ Trunks > Piccolo

Cell Games: SSJ Goku > SSJ Vegeta = SSJ Trunks (there's no distinction in the Cell Games as Cell consider them secundary options to fight after Goku gave up)

Buu Saga: SSJ2 Goku > SSJ2 Vegeta (before Majin spell) > SSJ2 Gohan

Also, in the Buu Saga, I think we have vague evidence such as Gohan vs Goten or Trunks vs Vegeta, in the second one, Trunks basically fell in one blow and Gohan vs Goten is basically a exchange that lasted some few pages, while the anime did a much better job presenting us Goten being unable to keep up with Gohan. Also some vague evidence we have is Mighty Mask vs Android 18, claiming that 18 wasn't holding back, but saying that Mighty Mask was limited due to the costume is actually a quite convenient for an argument, but not for a mental honesty angle as evidence of abscense does not equate of abscense of evidence. We have definitive evidence when it comes to the kids when Piccolo being more dominant and stronger after Gotenks defuses.

Another vague claim is using the Daizenshuu as a source as they're just basing on the exchange they have, even though, we have seen weaker characters being able to exchange blows with stronger ones and 18 putting them on the floor. 18 not oneshotting Mighty Mask is not good proof, either, as she likely won't be able to do the same as what 17 did to SSJ Trunks given Krillin's panic after seeing such a thing.

My point is that many of those cases we speculate too much about such scenarios as it doesn't exist any actual paremeter to measure anyone superiority over the weaker one, heroes aren't supposed to fight each other and sparring matches are just to teach each capability as opposed to fight seriously. The narrative doesn't require other than Piccolo being over half of a SSJ strength given a 2x boost give him enough power to match that of 17's, to have Vegeta or Trunks stronger than 50% Goku, but weaker than 100% Goku, it doesn't require to have other than SSJ2 Vegeta stronger than SSJ2 Gohan given that at that point Vegeta has realized that he has realized that Goku surpassed the SSJ wall. Everything is subjective when it comes to gaps and we can just create our personal chains with no definitive proof.

What do you think?

I'd be more inclined to say SSJ Vegeta > SSJ Goku >/> SSJ Trunks > Piccolo at this point. Goku and Vegeta should be quite close to one another, yet Vegeta said SSJ Trunks was pathetic when he attacked the androids.
Cell Games: SSJ Goku > SSJ Vegeta = SSJ Trunks
Agree.

Buu Saga: SSJ2 Goku > SSJ2 Vegeta (before Majin spell) > SSJ2 Gohan
Agree.

It's pretty hard to hand wave 18 vs the kids like this. From the beginning of the fight, 18 looked serious when sizing up Mighty Mask, recognizing that he wasn't ordinary. Even if you assume that 18 held back in the first exchange, it lacks all logic and reasoning to assume she couldn't simply up her effort level to knock them out of the ring. We saw she could control her effort level against Vegeta in the Android arc so she can definitely do it. Yet she wasn't able to get it done.

Well, she always had cold eyes. In her mind, Mighty Mask is just an extraordinary human who possess incredible strength for being a human, doesn't mean she could defeat him in a blink of an eye until realized how strong he is physically and she has to be careful. Vegeta is also a good example, she looked serious, even though we managed to see that Vegeta and her were holding back.

She did indeed put him on the floor, so why wouldn't she send him out of the ring?
