Are Pui Pui's spikes on his back just for show, or do they provide some benefit? I suppose it's a similar situation, like Cooler's pauldrons.

Are Cooler's pauldrons just an aesthetic design, or is there another underlying aspect as to why they are the way they are? Is Cooler the only character in the franchise with this type of pauldrons?
