I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s because he’s almost like Luffy in dreams and personality, except ruthless from what I heard. Yet he still seemed to sincerely encourage Luffy in Mock-Town as if he was good. It might the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde syndrome. Also the mystery about him maybe being more than one person and not knowing who he really is.
