I mean in Japan.

I'd think it''d be in no order (because I don't know):

DragonBall
Yu-Gi-Oh!

& then I don't know.

Hokuto no Ken has a pachinko thing going-on that broke records from what I heard. Saint-Seiya figures were very popular I believe, even now I think. Obviously One-Piece is the best-selling series.

DragonBall merchandise sells like crazy even now, so I think that's an obvious one. Including I think two or three games that sold over a million. The manga is obviously high. The anime had high-ratings & so-on & so-forth. Yu-Gi-Oh! in its hey-day had a mania where all its video-games all seemed to sell over a million in record-time too (with the 4th DM game managing to sell-over 2 million), not to mention the card-game. The manga sold a great amount too, so that should be a given too. Only a handful of manga/anime-based video-games sold-over a million, so Yu-Gi-Oh! having a long list of video-games selling over a million back during the craze is an impressive accomplishment, including the best-selling GB-exclusive game. Since then the craze seemed to have died down though.

What do you think would rank as the 3 top?

Does One-Piece sell so much compared to the others outside of the manga? I don't think it ranks a-lot in bandai's top-franchises (merchandise sales) when they show their reports each year.

Neon genesis evangelion. No manga during initial big merch sales, anime has cheap asf episodes towards the end, still selling loads of merch decades later.

Or Astro Boy?

Or DB maybe, despite being long asf.

Yeh guess pokemon and yugioh cuz of the cards. Think only weirdos play yugioh though.

Also is this profits for just the writers and owners of the manga and anime? Or profit for anyone selling merch, whether its the owners of the series, people/companies with an official affiliation who sell merch (eg bando-namkai) or people selling merch without official affiliation (eg fanart, fanfiction, fanmade clothing or youtube videos)?

Biggest total profit or biggest average profit margin per product

NGE has no big games I think. Maybe Astro Boy too?

what's that got to do with adult? wat. Do you mean adult like erotic? Lmao.

Yeh I meant lots of kids and adults like pokemon so it's a mainstream franchise, but yugioh I would guess is way more niche? Do you see Japanese kids giving a flip about yugioh? Idk, I'm asking.

Adult as-in it's not targeted toward adults obviously.

I don't know about now, but considering back in its hey-day the sales were crazy high, I'd think yeah. Besides even these days it's still going-on, even-though that might be due to the international market who knows.

One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, I believe. Naruto and Bleach are both bigger in the west.
