Introducing Broly, the strongest Saiyan
A message from Akira Toriyama, the original author, scriptwriter and character designer
When I was discussing the next movie with my editor, he suggested that we go with the popular character "Broly."
Broly was an original story from Toei Animation a long time ago, and it seems that I was the one who drew the character design, but I only heard briefly about the story and had completely forgotten it.
So, if Broly is popular, then I thought I should go for it and make the audience happy. So I decided on the theme and wrote my own brand new Broly based on the original story.
This is Broly from the "Super" series, with the addition of my favorite new characters, Remo and Cheelai, as well as the Frieza Army. I'm sorry to those who prefer the old content, but I've added a bit more drama and humanity to the story, and hope to make it one that fans will enjoy. What do you think?
Toei Animation is excellent when it comes to the all-important battle scenes. I only wrote a rough outline, and then I left it to them, and they turned it into a top-notch fight. It was too intense for an old guy like me, but the intense battle scenes using every technique left a strong impression. Thank you so much to all the staff for your hard work.
I would be extremely happy if all of you, whether you're a long-time fan, a new fan, or even someone who just happened to come and see it, enjoy the movie "Broly"!
Akira Toriyama Profile
Born in Aichi Prefecture. He made his debut as a manga artist in 1978 with the one-shot "Wonder Island" in the weekly "Shonen Jump" magazine. "Dr. Slump," which began serialization in 1980, became an explosive hit. In 1984, he began serializing "Dragon Ball", which continued for 10 and a half years. Since then, he has worked on one-shots and short serializations such as "SAND LAND," the "Nekomajin" series, and "Galactic Patrol Jaco," as well as character design for games such as the "Dragon Quest" series. Following "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" (original story, story, character design) and "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'", he is now in charge of the original story, scriptwriting, and character design.
41 years ago...the beginning of the fate
King Cold visits Planet Vegeta and announces his retirement and that his son, Frieza, will take over as his successor. King Vegeta and the others are unable to hide their shock, but Frieza shows his presence. It was the moment when a new emperor of the universe was born, with the Saiyans under his command.
King Vegeta, unable to contain his frustration at Frieza, finds Broly in a special nursery capsule. Shocked by Broly's potential, which exceeds that of his son Vegeta, he sends Broly flying to the asteroid Vampa in an attempt to eliminate him. Broly's father, Paragus, sets off to rescue him, determined to exact revenge on King Vegeta.
Five years later... Bardock felt something was off about Frieza's sudden summons to the Saiyans. Bardock, sensing something bad is going on, places his son Kakarot in a pod and sends him flying to Earth. Then, Planet Vegeta is destroyed by Frieza's attack. Leaving only a few Saiyans behind...
Reason for training
Earth, 41 years after the visit of King Cold. After winning the Tournament of Power, Goku and Vegeta, for their own reasons, went to Bulma's villa to train. Meanwhile, Trunks contacts Bulma to tell her that the six Dragon Balls she had collected have been stolen. Realizing that Frieza is plotting something secretly, Goku and his friends set off for the ice continent, where the last dragon ball is located. Meanwhile, Cheelai and Lemo of the Frieza Army were searching for warriors with high combat abilities to help rebuild the army. After receiving a distress signal, the two land on the asteroid Vampa, where they meet Broly and Paragus. Cheelai and co. protect the two and take them to Frieza.
A formidable enemy approaches
Taking advantage of Broly's incredible potential and Paragus' desire for revenge, Frieza tries to have Broly fight Goku and co.. Broly, unaware of Frieza's schemes, begins to open up through his interactions with Cheelai and Lemo.
When Goku and his friends arrive on the ice continent, Frieza and a Saiyan named Broly, whom they have never seen before, appear before them. Goku's voice calling for Saiyans to get along with each other does not reach Paragus, who is burning with revenge. Upon Paragus' command, Broly leaps into action, and a spectacular battle begins!
Broly Awakens
Vegeta fights back against Broly's attack. Learning how to use his powers as they fought, Vegeta sensed Broly's fighting ability growing rapidly and transformed into a Super Saiyan God. Faced with the overwhelming difference in power, Broly goes berserk and is unable to control his powers. Goku takes Vegeta's place against Broly, but the battle becomes even more intense! It seemed as though the two were evenly matched in strength, but that all changed with Frieza's scheme! Broly will achieve a further awakening...!
The outcome of the battle
Sensing the danger of Broly, who even a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan cannot counter, Goku teleports with Vegeta to Piccolo's location. With guidance from Piccolo, the two perfect their "fusion" and merge into Gogeta! Broly as Super Saiyan VS the ultimate fusion warrior Gogeta! The fate of the Earth is at stake as the final battle finally begins!
