Kid has been failed potential since his introduction. He was introduced as Luffy’s biggest rival who had similarities but was far more ruthless. We’ve never seen this side of him despite being known for harming civilians and whatnot. But suddenly he has become an ally to Luffy with no development whatsoever. Oda missed the boat to give him some backstory during the Udon training but never did.

Kid is well aware that Big Mom is comparable to Kaido (not counting his hybrid form, at least). If it was just a matter of power, he wouldn't chase after either Yonko for a 1 V 1 match, especially when having lost the advantage of there being a body of water to throw her in.
