My theory is built on the following sentence: "I can't get no satisfaction". This theory will most likely turn into a fanfiction after the episode 130-131. But try to ignore this during the reading...

Goku won the Tournament of Power. He has proved that he was the strongest mortal in the multiverse, stronger than the Gods of Destruction, and perhaps even the angels. The only being left to surpass is Great Priest. Afterwards, a question hit him: "and then what ?" Goku has realised that he cannot reach much higher levels. When asked about his wish, Goku asks for a delay, which Zeno accepts, but he has 24 hours to make his decision.

The realization that no one can satisfy him again has progressively ruined Goku's sanity, to the point he no longer wants to train. He smiles...but his wife and children know that this is a fake one. No one can be a rival to him anymore, and there is nothing he can do to stop it...perhaps not. With the Super Dragon Balls, which can grant him any wish, he can do. In Zeno's place and asked him the following wish.

"Cut all the bonds linking me with the Godly Ki and Ultra Instinct...until the day I am mentally ready to get it back...the day I am finally satisfied."

His wish was granted. Goku is teleported in GT's timeline. He was no longer capable of using his Godly forms, nor Ultra Instinct, and not even his own wish. He doesn't even have any memory of that. Sure enough, Goku is excited again, free of his angst.

This is how he is unable to curbstomp his way in GT, and he was still able to handle himself pretty well...then came Omega Shenron, who nearly killed him. However, Goku has made the realization that the Dragon Balls were partly his fault, that he had to take responsibility for it...by taking those with him to purrify them. He needs to accept he might not be able to fight anymore...and he did. Thus, all his power came back. Coming back, Goku could have oneshotted Omega Shenron...but he has decided to let everyone else in the universe do the fighting together.

There was an interview stating that Goku was cloaked in an aura that won't let any attack near him...what if it was actually an unmastered Energy of Destruction that he used uncounsciously ? After all, he could use Destruction in the manga.

Afterwards, Goku left in another dimension...which was actually his original timeline, the exact point he left. Goku came back home. When asked about his wish, Goku has refused to make one, because he has finally made peace with his life. He gave his wish to Vegeta, who proceeds to revive Universe 6.

Goku decides to become a candidate to be a God of Destruction and trained. 100 years later, Beerus has passed away...and sure enough, Goku became the new God of Destruction.

In short, GT has actually happened because of an immature desire of Goku to continue to enjoy the fights, and the end of GT had circumstances that might force him to give it up, which Goku has accepted. He doesn't train to surpass his opponent any longer...he trains to bring balance to the universe.

Well, it certainly makes a better story than anything to have come out of DBS, but GT's continuity presents plenty of theory breaking evidence. For instance, Goku stating Super Vegeta-Baby was the strongest Ki he'd ever sensed at that point, or him clearly having memories of Pan clearly not too long before the 28th TB.

Also, do you have a link to the source about his aura shielding him from all attacks? That's a pretty interesting find if so.

Since the only mortals stronger than Super Baby Vegeta would require him to use Godly Ki to fight them off, he wouldn't remember about them either.

And since his memories of Pan are unrelated to Godly Ki and Ultra Instinct, he still remembers about her. I've actually intended to teleport him in a timeline where no events of Super happened. A post-Boo timeline in which GT has happened.

I've got no problem just rolling with GT after Super. Bumpy ride or not I selfishly like pumping up the GT characters with god powers or whatever. That being said, it's a nice write up and fits just as well as any other theories that plug these two together. I appreciate any work putting into making GT-Super mash up.

I myself fit in the idea that the Black Star Dragon balls unleased enough negative energy to nerf the characters in some regards.

I wish AT sees that and ends DBS that way.
