I've seen this at least once in Gintama. It'd be something like this in a battle: Sanji saves Helmeppo (not that he needs saving, even from Imu) and at the same time Koby saves Nami. Or Bepo and Zoro are injured and Luffy saves Bepo and Law saves Zoro. Or a closer one to the Gintama one would be Lucci saves Sanji, Luffy saves Kaku, because Luffy and Lucci were previously adversaries.
It's very cool. It's like a sign of their strong relationship that they'd save the other's important person, or even a sign that they feel a connection to the ones they're saving, despite not previously being comrades. In the Gintama one I read yesterday, they both go to grab a sword from the battlefield at the same time, and then you don't know who each is going to save (though you can guess). So there's extra trust involved too - I think they both know the other will save their friend, so they don't even worry about protecting their own friend.
