What about Tenshinhan and God using Freeza's defeat as a measure stick to the SSJs? Shouldn't Piccolo beating 20 post be more impressive? Doesn't this imply Freeza is only defeatable vy the SSJs?

Frieza is only used as a measuring stick because this is SSJ Trunks's greatest and only achievement made in the Present Timeline. What more can Kami say about Trunks?

I think you're missing the point. Why try to overplay Piccolo's strengths by defeating Android 20 when he's agreeing with Piccolo of how useless Piccolo actually is? Trunks is only referred to because he is grouped with the Super Saiyans who are stronger than Piccolo is, but is still useless as an entire team. This is all that it really means. Mentioning Piccolo serves no purpose for what Kami was trying to convey.
