The gap is larger than my peers are suggesting here.

Teen Gohan initially thinks he can defeat a Goku and Vegeta who surpass Goku at the CG, he believes he'd still have an edge on them. This wouldn't be possible if Teen Gohan is all that close to CG Goku. That's the part everyone is missing here. It's not so much about Buu Saga Vegeta here, or Kid Gohan here, it's all about Teen Gohan.

Teen Gohan is probably stronger than the Cell who Goku fought, since Dabura should just about equal that version of Cell or exceed him.

Kid Gohan 750
Teen Gohan 600
Goku CG 500

Kid Gohan's lead must be enough for a severely weakened version of himself to still be superior. Gohan comes to his senses very quickly and assumes Goku is the strongest in the universe very shortly after Goku says he's coming back for the Tournament, but the implications are there already.

Teen Gohan CANNOT rival CG Goku, therefore, we know Kid Gohan is substantially superior to CG Goku.

Gohan just said “Yeah I’d like to win”. I don’t think he ever says he can beat either. If Goku wins the money goes to him anyway, and he gets 2nd or 3rd place.

It seems like Cell was just that far ahead of Goku but pulling his punches. That’s the only way him saying he’s going all out in speed makes any sense. What’s all-out about an arbitrary boost nowhere near his FP?

Sure, but he's making plans on winning and maintaining his edge, is he not?

Yeah, it doesn't really make all that much sense. But I would say he is using his full power after he sees Gohan get back up with no damage, logically he uses his full power after that.

Yeah he’s not going to sit around.

Wym? He only uses full power when Gohan goes SSJ2.

About 1.25x sounds enough to me. And then, to me, he gets a 1.2x boost on top of his SSJ2, which leaves room enough to fit pre Majin Vegeta, who may be > normal states kid Gohan, but still < his SSJ2.

1.33x with 1.1x rage has always been my thing.

CG Goku: 90
Cell (Vs Goku): 100
CG Gohan: 120
Cell (Vs Gohan): 125
CG Gohan (Enraged): 135

BS Gohan/Dabra: 100
BS Vegeta: 120
BS Goku: 150

Cell is flat out retarded here. Senses a strong Ki and thinks “hey maybe I can beat him without powering up! Ok, maybe I just need some extra speed…”. Baffles me that you genuinely think AT is a genius P.

Well, I never claimed he was perfect. Keeping up with this idea of consistent power implications would be absolutely maddening, the fact that despite his imperfections, things are actually decently attainable is a miracle.

It's not like DB has a detailed scaling complexity... It doesn't warrant a genius to keep the scaling consistent. If anything, he managed to make many things up in the air by making contradictory implications. Like, he had Trunks close to Vegeta when keeping up in speed with him, but then Vegeta labeling Trunks' energy thrown at the androids as a waste of energy... Then Trunks is baffled at Vegeta's abilities to fight on par with 18 and later it's said Trunks and Vegeta aren't too different from each other. Or the future androids in relation to future Trunks... On one hand Trunks stated 3 years later he was absolutely no match for them, but later he had Trunks saying he could fight them fairly well... And later in he had 18 treating Trunks casually and thinking she could take the version she knew of him with a casual chi blast. Or making all those implications for Piccolo far surpassing Freeza, and then bringing Freeza through Kami as if Trunks' feat helped showing how mean the androids are in strength.

If anything, he had not much of a clue on the scaling and that's why many debates happened, because he'd imply things from both sides and debaters would take a side and try to showcase one side as more relevant even though both are and are actually fruit of weird writing. The story is compelling, DB is amazing, but to something simple in power scaling he overcomplicated a lot of stuff due to likely having not much of a clue in general in where the characters stood power wise.

For one side tho, I think it was good as it sparked many debates.

Toriyama is a genius artist. Plot has never really been his priority.

That's partly where I see the genius. The complexity of the contradictory, yet, cohesive elements is not easy to do. It shows he has a nuanced view of where the characters are in relation to each other, seemingly at all times and across many characters, that I find impressive.

The cohesive contradictions is what I find to be a talented means of expression, he's walking a tightrope ever so elegantly. Majority of writers wouldn't have such rich, detailed views of character placement.

Where others see contradiction, I see nuance. He's not surface leveling his character placements, it's a multi step, multi thought breakdown.

Every seemingly contradictory statement is just another shade of the overall picture, little by little allowing us to see clearly. To me, that's genius for sure. I don't see anyone else capable of such a thing, this guy is far more detailed then he lets on.

But Cell wasn't giving his all either. When he does, he easily catches Gohan.

Cell is giving it his all at the speed he used against Goku.

A speed Goku could barely keep up with.

Gohan with minimal effort easily dodges everything Cell threw at him with.
