Well, like I said Tenshinhan was already on the losing-end as is and he wasn't going to get the upper-hand no matter what (since he had been trying for some-time upto that point) and he knew that so he resorted to the Kikoho.
And like I said, they were still close. Muten Roshi said Goku couldn't allow himself to waste energy and that the battle would last for a while and later they went in an evenly exchange of blows, with both of them putting a lot of effort:

Just after it that Goku was able to outsmart Tenshinhan with the after image and using sunglasses to protect himself against the Taiyô-Ken.

It sure wasn't a gap like 18k Vegeta vs Kaioken Goku.

About Freeza and Piccolo whilst true. He just raised his power to full-power.
Which was like his "trump card" to give Piccolo a lesson, like he said.

Freeza doesn't like to lose or be on the losing-end so he went full-power
The same could be said to Yamcha. In his first fight against Goku, just after being hit by the Nyoi Bo, he resorted to his Rogafufuken. Hell, even in the fight we are talking about, he also resorted to his Rogafufuken, in spite of him being evenly with Tenshinhan in their initial exchange, with nothing leading us to think he was on the losing side initially.

We disagree then, ahill. I have Vegeta vs Zarbon being 1.17x, so my gaps reflect that.
Do you have Zarbon less then 21k?

I'd say the advantage Tenshinhan has is more like 93/100 or something like that.

KHH takes more Ki, though. He knew trying to fight Tenshinhan head-on wasn't going to work. Why waste Ki on a KHH so early, if he can just fight with him evenly? Even Kuririn makes it out to be as if Tenshinhan is clearly superior.

I'd say it's even closer, like 96/100 or so. 93/100 is more like Goku SSJ vs Freeza IMO. Anyway, we both agree that it's closer than 88/100.

Yeah, hence why he opted to use the KMHMH. All it shows is that he was getting the worse out of the fight.

It's not exactly evenly, Yamcha was being pushed back. Also, between fighting a pretty hard battle, one you are even on the losing side and opting to a technique you can probably win, the latter is obviously a better choice.

Kuririn said Yamcha was being pushed back, which was what he saw. Yeah, Ten is superior, but he's not by a considerable amount imo.

He saw it, but that to Kuririn was a clear indication that Yamcha was on the losing-end so it's not like Yamcha was almost equal to Tenshinhan.
