Garp and Sengoku at Marineford

How powerful were they? They were guarding Ace himself, above even the Admirals. Are they more powerful than the Admirals?

Hard to say. Garp (rage boost) should be above Akainu, but lower than him without it IMO. That would put his max at old age above admirals. Sengoku implied he could beat Garp during the war too, so that would put his max above the admirals as well.

During war I wanna say Sengoku > all the admirals, only thing I feel iffy on is how he didn't wreck Luffy's shit in that one scuffle they had. Not much basis for Garp's power I don't think, aside from Sengoku seeming maybe legitimately worried about Garp attacking Akainu.

Balloon luffy is just really good at blocking physical attacks. Especially if Sengoku didn't use haki.

So if Sengoku/Garp > Akainu, could they have beaten Whitebeard in a 2 v 1?

Possibly, but so could the other three admirals and that didn't work out very well at all. Of course it'd never happen because then no one's guarding Ace.

Ja Whitebeard's crew did too well at splitting everyone up, nobody could really attack him together.

What do you think about Garp + Sengoku vs 3 Admirals?

With the 3 admirals always being referred to as the navy's strongest force, I'd imagine they'd come out on top. I think only Sengoku is for sure stronger than any single admiral normally anyway.

I'd say Garp's reputation would put him there alone, but who knows.

People were in shock when he attacked Marco, despite seeing the three Admirals in action already.

At first I thought Garp was too old to beat any admiral but when I read the scene again where Garp was in ready to take out Akainu I changed my mind. He seemed pretty damn serious. Awesome page in the manga btw, one of the best in the manga.

Blackbeard seemed confident in facing Sengoku with his crew, yet retreated from Akainu. Even though the situations were different. with Teach having little to gain from fighting Akainu, it seems to be a strong indication that Akainu > Sengoku.

As for everyone's reaction to Garp punching Marco, it might've been due to them being surprised he'd make such a solid stand on letting Ace be executed.

Akainu post time skip is most likely a completely different monster though. Based on Garp's confidence on killing Akainu, it's possible that Garp going all out even in his old age might have beaten Akainu. Granted, I'd assume this is one of the few situations where he'd manage to bring out all his power, something that Luffy as a unique trait can do all the time.

I would say Garp was stronger than Akainu. He was pretty sure of himself that he can take out Akainu. Other than that he still recieved hype. Sengoku is most likely equal to Kizaru if not weaker
