Things appear to be going well for Luffy in the most recent chapter, but I can't see that lasting forever given that it seems impossible for the war to be wrapping up soon. Gear 4 seems to be the concentration of Busoshoku Haki within Luffy's body, and we saw that this technique wasn't enough to damage Kaido (even post training) significantly. So with recent developments, I'm thinking that Luffy will unlock Gear 5 by concentrating Haoshoku Haki within his body instead of Busoshoku. He's currently able to coat his body in Haoshoku, but it should be much more effective to concentrate it within his body similar to how G4 is far superior to regular Busoshoku Haki. Thoughts?

How could it transform him? Like I'm guessing he'll be given different skills or abilities.

Well I don't know exactly how it would work. We are shown that Haoshoku is able to repel other Haoshoku attacks of equal power. I'd have to think Luffy's defenses would be nearly impenetrable if most of his body was covered in it. For example in G4 he is still able to be cut by someone with strong Busoshoku Haki. If Haoshoku was applied to this principle, only someone with equal or greater Haoshoku would be able to seriously damage him. And it might be easier on his body considering we see Base Luffy being capable of fighting Kaido evenly with primitive Haoshoku coating.

Makes sense. On its own I don't think it's enough to be another Gear, since it's too close to just being a strength power up, but if it lets him do some new weird stuff then sure. If Oda's planning on having Luffy awaken his gomu powers, then that'll probably be Gear 5 instead though.

Maybe he can hit with his Conqhaki independently of his physical body. So like he goes to hit you with his Conqhaki on your right side and goes to bunch you on your left at the same time. You would have to use your own Conqhaki to block his haki and then block his physical attack with whatever is left over of your Conqhaki combined with your physical strength and Busoshoku. But when he uses his Conqhaki to hit you, he's no longer protecting his own body properly so he's also more vulnerable from attacks (especially Conqhaki attacks) himself. If Asura is from Zoro's Conqhaki, then Luffy could have a spirit type thing too, which could be used to show where his Conqhaki is attacking (the spirit throws punches and kicks, which are pure Conqhaki). I partly ripped this off from HxH's Enhancement Nen system (like how Gon can't protect himself fully while throwing a full power punch), because Conqhaki seems to be an aura, similar to Nen. We've seen Conqhaki mess with things far outside the user's body (eg Shanks and WB's clash messing up the sky and possibly Dragon using haki to mess with the weather, although that could be a Devil Fruit), which is why I think the haki could be able to come from different directions to hit the opponent.

It would be cool if his Devil Fruit awakening was tied to that idea.
