..Gohan and Goten were twins?

Let's say that Goten was born at the same time as Gohan. That said, his latent power and its rate of progression is the same as Gohan's, rather than being ridiculously powerful naturally. His personality remains more or less the same as his canon self, however. How does having what's essentially a second Gohan with more desire to fight affect the story going forward?

I think they'd all just get killed by Vegeta because Goten wouldn't be too scared to attack Nappa when he's off guard, allowing Piccolo to impale him with a Makankosappo (or Kuririn chops him in half with a Kienzan if he's not being PIS-influenced). Then they'd all be defeated before Goku comes and Vegeta wipes out the Earth and gets killed by the Ginyu Force on Namek.

I'm not so sure if things would lead directly into the exact same version of the Nappa fight as in canon though, considering how the inclusion of a trained hybrid and potential sparring partner for Galu could significantly change the Raditz events.

Goten would have been training with Goku by the time Raditz arrived and he would have full access at least to his 710 power. Later, when Goku and Piccolo fight Raditz, Goten accesses his 1307 power easier than his twin and is able to remain in the enraged mode for longer. With him joining the fight, Piccolo manages to hit Raditz with the special beam canon first try. Later, everyone is defeated by Nappa or, in the best case, by Vegeta if the latter has to join the fight.

I think I'll just imagine a scenario with Raditz and see where it goes from there.

Chi-Chi would probably still try to keep Goku from training Goten, though I can imagine the latter sneaking off to secretly train with his dad, to his mother's dismay. So when the time comes to go visit Kame House, Goten would be forced to stay with his mother, while Goku goes with Gohan. By the time Raditz comes, the encounter is far more even than in canon, but given they don't Goten and Goku don't train together that regularly to avoid tipping Chi-Chi off of their activities, he still loses and Gohan is kidnapped.

Goten having learned to sense Ki by that point, has decided to go to Kame House despite his mother's protests to check on his father, but he won't arrive before they leave since he still doesn't fly as fast as the Kinto-Un. Things go just like in canon, except Goku and Raditz are both still weakened from their initial bout, to the point Gohan actually manages to knock his uncle out. Piccolo first kills him, and when he's about to finish Goku off too, Goten arrives and easily defeats him, though his father convinces his son to spare him.

This first part ultimately ends with them all training in order to prepare for Nappa and Vegeta. Though without access to Kaioken and Genki Dama, the fight against Vegeta would be extremely difficult even with the four's base strength being far above canon.

Gohan unlocks SS2 from witnessing Goten die instead of #16.
