I tried to post this twice on reddit
I remember watching a video that detailed how Toriyama felt about the anime's portrayal of Goku. There was something he said like "the anime portrays him as a superhero, they missed the poisonousness" I guess... that comes with the character's personality to fight strong opponents?
That could be a reason why some viewers, myself included finding Goku's character to be bad in a way since the people he cares about are always in danger. The character is based on Sun Wukong so in a way it does make sense. I just need that video explained to me just in case I got something wrong.
