Was he in kaioken mode or in full base power? I think the color of his eyes in the first panel of the colorless version indicates kaioken.

Goku's eyes are consistent to Goku using extreme effort and are not a Kaioken specific thing. Goku says he will unleash his full power, as we see with Ginyu, Goku thinks of his full power as his base power and separates it from his Kaioken power.

Against Ginyu, Goku declared he would use his full power right before going kaioken.

Hmm, that's a good point. But Goku considers his power to merely be a warm-up against Freeza, I don't think that's implied with Ginyu.

Yeah, I don't think Goku considers his full base power a warm up type of power. Goku does say he is using his true power when he uses Kaioken against Ginyu, but the anime, the colored manga, and the narrative all seem to suggest that Goku is just using his full base power to combat Freeza when he isn't using his hands.

As you can see with Ginyu, Goku states he is outright using Kaioken. We never get confirmation against Freeza until he uses Kkx10. So without him stating Kaioken outright, there's no reason to believe he is.

What most people confuse here is that the Namek Saga is filled with a lot of flight auras, the more you start seeing the flight auras, the more you realize it's most likely not Kaioken.

He was using his base form, he didn't started using Kaioken until he went x10 against 50% Freeza.

Full Base. I don't see anything suggesting he was using the Kaioken and Toriyama was pretty clear on these things.
