How do feel about the Greed Island saga from HxH?
I've mixed feelings. All the game inspiration Togashi used was cool and well thought out, and showcases his passion for rpg like games and it's nice it had a tie to the saga's ending, meaning the structure of the saga remained solid. Some explanations were kinda too detailed though, so it's something you need to be pretty focused on to get, which can be good and bad I'd say.
I found Biscuit suddenly appearing and training them a tad little too convenient. It's true that this trait of attracting others to their side is something most Shounen protagonists share, but I feel her reasons could have been more clear. The training seemed cool, but I wouldn't complain if there was more of a showing given the big improvement Gon and Killuan underwent.
The dodgeball is one of the saga's highlights and Razor's flashback does very well in showing how a sad scene can be conveyed just well without the need for flamboyant and over the top reactions like in One Piece. Ging being the only one to call Razor by his name and that moving Razor was very cool and shows how ppl can be redeemed if there's even a single person who believes in you. Still, I'd say that given Ging's vote of confidence for Razor, it sounds a little strange that Razor would kill Bopobo quickly like that.
The fight with Gentru was a stepdown from the dodgeball and I expected more in terms of strategy, mainly the usage of game tactics. Gon opened his book and said for Genthru to surrender, but then we got a strategy that Gon merely limited Genthru's room to attack him with his Janken... is there more to it did his strategy limit to that?
