How come SSJ still overstresses the body?

Goku and Gohan and presumably company mastered it, but old Kai said it shortens their life spam and shouldn't be used too much.

Guess it still has a bigger effect than base.

Maybe they can't suppress their power to near zero after already fusing in a powered up state, like they can neither detransform nor power down further than the power they initially fused into.

Galu said that the Potara Fusion might be stronger if they turned SSJ before fusing. I guess this more or less shows that (as far as the manga/Z continuity goes anyway) Ultimate Gohan can turn SSJ with no power increase, because fusing in different forms might have untold consequences. Then again, Merged Zamasu, aside from having a small multiplier due to the Future Zamasu half being weaker, wasn't defective at all in the manga, so who knows how an SSJ/2/3 Galu and Ultimate Gohan fusion might turn out.
