How did Blackbeard hurt Shanks?

And maybe Shanks kinda let him attack. Like on Whale Island.

Blackbeard is a smart fighter who waits for opportunities. He could've attack him in a sneaky way.

Shanks seemed to word his account of the event in a way to illustrate how dangerous BB was, so it was probably in relation to his power, combined with his unpredictability. It most likely happened when Shanks was far less powerful and experienced.
