When designing them, what was his thought process? Anyone got his phone number?
The revolutionary army look like IRL outcasts, a bunch of fuckin nerds. Ivankov, Morley, Sabo dresses like he's at a school disco as a Monopoly character, scissors guy, Koala's a hipster, Dragon thinks wearing a cloak is cool.
Was this intentional? Did he think "what would revolutionaries look like?" "they should look like weirdos"?
Then the admirals. Until Green Bull, they all looked straight-laced, like typical Japanese middle-aged men. Even Green Bull still has black hair. Aokiji has curly hair though, which deviates from Japan's corporate standards. Was the curly hair foreshadowing him rebelling against the marines?
What about the Whitebeard Pirates? They all look kinda punk or alternative, except Whitebeard. Even WB had long hair like a metalhead though. Vista fucks it up by dressing like a stripper or WWE guy though. But how did Oda design the WB pirates?
