I guess for Weekly-Jump series and series from other Shueisha magazines it might be explainable, but what about Studio-Ghibli movies or Detective Conan or even Star-Wars?

You could even say openings/endings like DragonBall Kai one. Surely they can’t pay everyone, right?!

Can't sue a gorilla

I think they've always made their own thing, so it's original content. The ones they've ripped off the actual unique names rather than having a design or name they made up themselves (eg Kagura saying "too slow Yamcha") of are I think Shueisha's series. Can't remember if the Jackie Chan was named Jackie Chan or just Jackie (either way, not sure if his likeness is copyrighted in Japan).

I did find this lol https://www.animemaru.com/sunrise-r...-gintama-from-circulation-due-to-parody-laws/

Here's a serious article though, from 2012: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ne...gement is only,Japan is often tacitly allowed.

As Japanese law currently stands, no special provisions are made for parody works, as they are under the laws of various other countries such as the United States. As such, a strict reading of Japanese copyright law would deem parody as a violation of copyright owners' "right to maintain integrity," making parody potentially illegal without the prior consent of copyright owners.

Because copyright infringement is only prosecutable upon a copyright owner's formal complaint, parody in Japan is often tacitly allowed."

So maybe it's just that nobody bothered to sue them? Jackie Chan, Nintendo, Obama and Ill Smith are too busy to go after Gintama. Honestly I dunno though. You'd have to look into their copyright law. Maybe this is your professional calling.

What about this?
or this?
Did the recording company just allow them to use it for free or did they pay?

Maybe Shueisha has the rights/joint rights to the songs?
Or maybe they just paid the record label. Not sure how much that would cost though.

I looked on some sites that are supposed to tell you the owner of songs and checked Dragon Soul and Cha La Head Cha La and it mostly just gave some Japanese people. One (repertoire.bmi.com) also had for both songs Fujipacific Music, Inc. as publisher, which according to wikipedia is the film music subsection of Fuji TV Group (these guys also broadcasted Pride MMA, until its Yakuza links got made public by journalists and Fuji cancelled their contract, marking the beginning of the end) which is part of Fujisankei Communications Group, which is the biggest media company in Japan. Weirdly I didn't see Hironobu Kageyama listed for Cha La Head Cha La. The Latin American Cha La Head Cha La has Fujipacific and also Toei Animation listed as publishers. There's also some random guy who I think is from Morocco who has Dragon Soul, Cha La and a bunch of other anime songs but nobody else listed on his versions. Idk how complete or accurate the info on the site is though and especially for in Japan.
You could try uploading Dragon Soul or the Saint Seiya one to youtube and see who claims it. Use a Japanese VPN too, maybe that makes a difference.

Also record companies mostly own the rights to the songs the artist release I think. That’s why so many artists buy their catalogue back from the company at times. They get screwed-over.

I saw the Doraemon one before, and most likely yeah. That might be the reason why when-ever you hear a character humming or singing something in a series it's either a completely new/made-up song, public-domain (don't think I remember seeing this though), or a song from their own series (opening, ending etc.).

I wish. Also lol if you watched it you might not think he's goofy. He's pretty serious about following the rules.
edit: goofy or awkward anyway
