How much of a difference would it have made had Gohan trained with Vegeta and Trunks with Goku?

Why? And how?
Vegeta still wants to go first. Safe to say he trains solo and doesn't care about Gohan, who doesn't have large gains. In cannon, without Goku's encouragement, Gohan didn't even believe he could go SSJ.
When Vegeta exits, he lets Cell achieve his perfect form all the same. Cell kills him, since Trunks is not there to save him. Without Trunks's power to impress him, Cell doesn't organize the Cell Games and just kills everyone and destroys the Earth. Goku and Trunks stay trapped in the ROSAT.
Supposing Cell waits for Goku and Trunks, I don't think any of them has reached SSJ2, since Goku hadn't realized such a transformation is possible before seeing Gohan doing it, and I don't think Trunks has Gohan's anger that would help him achieve it.

But assuming he take the position of a teacher, Vegeta would be as strict as Piccolo and he would learn as much as he learned to him. He could likely destroy him like he did in the Saiyan Saga to push him to go SSJ, then I think he would also learn and get the grade forms.

From what I think, Vegeta would decide to fight Cell alone and when it comes to reaching Perfection, Gohan would be more easy to mislead than Trunks. Perfect Cell would destroy Vegeta and Cell would ask Gohan what his father is doing, then he decides to wait for a tournament just for him, but he wouldn't mind if others were to fight him too.

Trunks would learn from Goku about the SSJ stages and would decide in practice what he told him. Even though, at the Cell Games it'd be initially Goku vs Cell, everyone else would join making it a Movie 8/Hatchiyack scenario. Cell would be much weaker than what his Perfect Form actually was in the story and Cell be defeated. Then, Trunks returns to the future and everything else happens.

This is my fanfic.

I doubt Vegeta would bother with Gohan. Goku and Trunks would be an interesting duo. Trunks is very gifted, but I’m not sure if he could reach SSJ2.

Gohan would be hard pressed to learn Super Saiyan on his own. Vegeta likely wouldn't give him the time of day while he was learning how to surpass Super Saiyan.

Goku would at least have a good sparring partner in Trunks. I'd say at best Goku would end up being as strong as he did with Gohan, but without Gohan's power the Cell Games would end pretty quickly. Gohan would have to enter the RoSaT again for there to be any hope.

Goku might end up stronger, because he admitted Gohan would slow his progress down at first. But he wouldn't discover SSJ2 without seeing it in Gohan. The fate of the world would depend on whether Trunks has enough potential and anger to go SSJ2.

Goku would be stronger than he was at the Cell Games since he wouldn't have to teach Trunks SSJ (he already unlocked it) and Trunks may take Gohan's place, while Gohan probably never achieves SSJ at all since Vegeta wouldn't even bother with him. I don't think he even actually trained Trunks either (they most likely were just sparring partners) since he had to learn the hard way that Grade 3 is useless.

I don't know if Goku would end up stronger. He rejected the idea of further training in the room because he felt like he had gotten as good as he could get for the time.
