How strong is Magellan?

Is he slightly below Admiral tier?

Not sure how he'd measure up to an Admiral, but his fruit is incredibly powerful and he's physically a beast to boot, plus his fight against Blackbeard's crew speaks volumes, regardless of the fact that they underestimated him. A strong, skilled Logia (bar Crocodile) or someone skilled with Haki would likely put him in check though, especially since, iirc, he has yet to display Haki abilities of his own, though I wouldn't find it odd if he did have it since he's supposed to be able silence any prisoner or whatever.

Edit: Worth noting that Shiliew is supposed to be Magellan's equal. How strong do you think he is?

I think he was a little weaker than Magellan, but I am only at the part where he was released. I'm not really sure why he went with Blackbeard tbh.

Also do you think Magellan can damage Marco?

But at the same time, it seems weird to have Ace guarded by a guy who can be easily beaten by a Captain of Whitebeard's ship.

The entire defense isn't really entrusted to him. The defense of Impel Down is actually all centered around the gates of justice. Only the WG has the authority to open and close them. Wouldn't be surprised if even WB couldn't break it. If someone launches an attack against it I bet they'd do a buster call or something along those lines.

Seastone cuffs would surely make Magellan's job easier.

Shiliew went with Blackbeard because it was either that or a death sentence at the hands of the government.

From what statements imply, his physical strength shouldn't be too far below Teach, since he believed his equal Shiliew wouldn't get taken out easily by the Blackbeard Pirates. At the very least, I'd place him above Ace. His poison could cause trouble to Admiral tier foes (or indeed, any character) if they don't have anything to counter it, though any of them with could attack range would be able to sort him out.

I would say he is around a Yonko commander level so right below Admiral. He was hyped up to be equal to if not stronger than Shiryuu who pre timeskip was being hyped up to be Blackbeards equal. BB even called him extraordinarily powerful and he definetley got more hype than Ace. I think Magellan can take out Blackbeard and is on the level of Vista.
