Goku had time to transform when buutenks charged at him. A full power blast was impossible to do regardless due to heavy stamina drain in a living body, that he is still unaware of

Notice how I said AND. SSJ3 itself he may have been able to access quickly (even then, debatable because he took longer to transform against Kid Boo), but he clearly didn't have time to charge a FP KHH

There's still elder kai's statement, he makes clear vegetto was the one needed to counter the blast. And he could pretty much predict that whatever ssj3 goku can do would not matter against buutenks

Because Vegetto takes like 1 second to form, you merely need to put on Potara earrings. Elder Kai even preferred they do a permanent fusion with Vegetto over doing the dance to get Gogeta against a relatively weak opponent like Kid Boo because it's a safer bet

But, that would be far beyond what goku is capable to achieve on his own similar to the kamehameha vs perfect cell, right?

Or maybe gogeta was out of the picture ever since potara was introduced. The only one who thinks of gogeta is goku and then old kai questioning why they didn't use the dance while he got said that goku want to fight kid buu on his own and vegeta agreeing

They wanted Goku and Vegeta to do the Potara even before Kid Boo invaded the Kaioshinkai. The dance was only brought as an afterthought after they crushed the Potara once more and Boo was just standing there snoring. I also don't think Gogeta was out of the picture without reason. In the original manga, Potara just produces a much stronger warrior and is therefore the preferable option regardless of it being permanent

Wouldn't say far beyond since it's his own power. If you mean in terms of pulling it off, then I would say it's not guaranteed since Kid Buu likes to apply consistent pressure on his opponent.
