How was Smoker so calm meeting Dragon

He even knows who he is. Is he aware of how much stronger than him Dragon is? I wonder if he's less scared because he knows it's Garp's son? Or maybe Smoker personally worked with Dragon in the past?

Just saw Smoker says Dragon appeared and disappeared like lightning at Gol D Roger's execution, 22 years ago. So he'd already turned by then, when Smoker was a kid. So probably didn't know him directly. I hope we'll get to see how Dragon left, and at what point he became famous as revolutionary.
