He was the only human Goku ever interacted with until Bulma, so yeah he'd remember him. But if 8 months with Roshi can bring Kuririn way higher than BODB Goku, Gohan probably hadn't taught him a whole lot when he went berserk and killed him

Still Goku seems to recognise him almost immediately. I'd think if he really was that young when Grand-Pa Gohan died he'd remember him less well, but I agree it seems like it's a long time ago since he died in the manga so who knows? Probably didn't think too much about how much someone could remember from their early child-hood.

Goku still looks like a first grader by BoDB so it's hard to tell. I wager it was when he was young based on Gohan not intensively training him like Roshi did though.
