Yeah, I've jumped on the bandwagon. Posting this a bit late. I'm on chapter 46 as of right now.

Feelings
-Nami is my favorite character (just to be different) :OP:

She feels the most "real" out of the guys we've met so far - she isn't a super hero and she doesn't have lofty ideals, she's crafty and always looking out for number one. Zoro comes in second.

-Luffy seems like a generic shonen lead.
-Villains (Buggy, Kuro, Morgan) don't have sympathetic qualities, to their detriment. Something like Naruto goes too far with the sympathetic qualities, but there's a balance.
-Neat character designs (except the women, who all look the same).
-Good setting, world feels inhabited.
-It's fun, but it isn't blowing me away.

Nami's one of the best imo, especially earlier on, so you're not too weird there I guess :p

Hope you like it. Just don't expect it to push boundaries much.

To most of the critiques you have, particularly repetitive female designs and not being completely impressed by it, I'd say just keep reading. Even the biggest OP fans tend to have the general consensus that East Blue is one of the weaker story arcs, though Arlong Park was good. Usopp is debatably a better example of realism in the main cast than Nami, though it only gets truly emphasised on later on.

I do like Usopp as well, but he's a pretty straightforward good guy. The most interesting part will likely be his relationship with his father. But as of right now, Nami has had better character moments than him IMO.

Sorry for not updating this much. I'm nearing the end of Skypiea.

It's shocking how much sense everything makes in this series. It's very adept at introducing a lot of characters and giving them all a role in the story. I like that the characters don't run the world, (like in say DBZ) they simply exist in it, which makes the conflict feel more personal. When the characters get excited at the prospect of exploring somewhere new, you do too.

Yeah, Oda's a master when it comes to world building and foreshadowing. It's also worth noting that despite it's 80+ volume length, there's still only about 2 or 3 minor plot holes that I can think of off-hand, showing just how consistent his writing is.

One Piece part 1 was pretty cool. My favorite arc was Syrup Back Summit Village; Higuma > all.

I fucking hated that Akainu guy cuz he was weak and did nothing.
