We see Yamcha offering to help Tenshinhan once Tao started using his sword. From this it can be inferred that Tao is relevant enough to be a threat to initial Tenshinhan with weaponry. It's clear he was leagues below Ten without weaponry though, so how relevant would Tao be to the likes of Krillin/Yamcha?

Tao is treated with the utmost respect by Krillin and Yamcha. They act like he's a real threat, they are scared for Tien when he uses a weapon, they crap themselves over Super Dodonpa, and they ultra respect Tao almost the entire time. Tien KOing Tao makes them think that Tien is too strong.

I think this is a callback to the 22nd Budokai. Yamcha/Krillin are relative to Tao the same way they were to King Chappa.

I think it's probably very close as their performances later seem like they overshadow their previous respect for King Chappa/Tao.

Krillin and Yamcha do very well against Shen and Piccolo. I think they are a couple steps ahead, but he's gotta be rivaling them or close.

Yeah I'd say the Super Dodonpa should be strong enough to be a threat to Krillin/Yamcha upon rereading.

For sure, they are flipping out about it. It should probably be able to kill them or something close to it.

I'd say he is.

All the finalists of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai were prophesied to be monsters in their own rights. Him and Chi-Chi were the weakest, but still far above any other participant up till that point.

Yamcha and Krillin were obviously threatened by him, and didn't really seem to change their views even after Tenshinhan manhandled only coming to the realization that Ten might be too strong for them.

Between him and Chi-Chi... I gave him the edge though not by a lot because they were both defeated very easily, roughly the same level of effort from both Goku and Ten outside the Super Dodompa, but Tao overall I felt was treated like a bigger deal plus his already-existing reputation.

He’s like the King Chappa of this tournament. Everyone can beat him but you need to be a top tier to embarass him.
