Actually the original says the same. I guess they're referring to Perfect Cell/Post-absorptions Cell.

An interesting thing of note is that there is no "future tense" in Japanese, so the last part of the sentence describing Cell's superiority ("koeru to iun da zo") could be in future tense. In that case, they could be describing Cell's future forms after the mergers.

Yeah the original says Cell far surpasses the androids but like Kenshi said it may be in future tense. At least Herms translated that as it was in future.

Does Piccolo mention Vegeta specifically being powerless against the androids? Or does Picc mention the situation as a whole? Because in the translation I tried to pull off, it seems Piccolo says "Cell far surpasses those utterly unmanageable androids (17 and co.)", rather than saying Vegeta specifically was powerless against them. Could just be that I suck tho.

I've always just viewed this as a mistake in the manga. Talking about cells potential works too.
