Does anyone like these? They've never appealed to me, although the only one I've watched part of is Sword Art Online (and HxH Greed Island and Gintama Owee, which are both good).

It's when they get transported to another dimension/universe.

I dunno...I generally dislike the idea. Sometimes people will be like "but THIS one is good," but I never got around to watching those ones because I have no real interest.

Have you seen many?

They all seem the same. Like you're some rpg character and you level up? Then you go home and your life still sucks.

SAO is the one I've seen the most of, which I don't really like. I've seen Konosuba, but that's more of a comedy and I don't mind it. I've seen bits of other ones like Shield Hero and NGNL and I feel like there's just nothing there for me. Maybe I should try more but there's just other stuff I'd rather try.

The whole idea of it always seems losery to me. It seems it might be the most popular genre on other forums, which confuses me, but maybe eventually I'll try them and find something I like about 'em, like I have with other genres.

Sword Art Online isn't isekai. They move freely between virtual worlds and simulations after the first arc. They're never trapped after that. The focus is all on how VR and reality affect each other.

Overlord is a pretty good Isekai, Log Horizon too. Both are similar to SAO in that they're based on games, but the characters are actually sent to the world of the game and aren't just playing them.

I liked older isekai like Vision of Escaflowne. But ever since the boom that Re:Zero and Overlord created in the mid 2010's the medium has been reduced to absolute trash where people get reincarnated as vending machines.

whats the difference between them (not SAO)

whats the point of isekai

whats the most realistic isekai? Like Shinji doesnt like being a soldierin NGE, unlike most 14 yr old anime characters.

Whats the real world doing during isekai? Do they have a funeral for the MC?

Also, is DBZ an isekai? Cell gets stuck in Goku and then in Trunks' timeline, so it's an isekai for him?

When the character(s) are transported to another dimension. Like Greed Island in HxH or SAO, except they don't return to the real world (at least not until the end of the show). Often it's like they've been transported into an RPG world.

Greed Island bored me to death. I can't see any reason to assume others would be different.
