I have watched Parts 1-3 of JoJo, got a start on Part 4 but put it on-hold (like ages ago) -- will finish in due time whenever I can of course.

Is there any reason to read the respective manga parts? I've heard from plenty that the anime, while adapted well, is still inferior to the manga, but that could easily just be a bias towards the source material.

Part 1 was rushed a bit to fit the 9 episode constraints but was already mediocre as hell in the manga so meh

Part 2 was ok in the anime, as good as the manga

Part 3 felt slightly dragged out in the anime because it had to fit 4 cours or whatever you call that, but it also improved upon some of the manga's plot holes and the manga itself was a rather repetitive slog a lot of the time.

I haven't watched all of part 4's anime but it seems up to par with the manga version except for the highway star~cheap trick portion prior to the final fight, which was rushed to part 1 levels to fit the 39 episode constraint (in the manga Part 4 is longer than Part 3 hence the disparity).

Overall I don't think you have much to lose by just watching the anime, it's a good adaptation like Brotherhood was after the first 13 episodes.

Basically what Kenshi said. I'd advise reading Part 1 of the manga since it has better art and plugs the plot hole of Dio finding out what Hamon is that the anime created, though that only matters if you really care about Part 1's mediocre plot. I'd say Part 3 is definitely better than the manga since the art is more consistent, a few plot holes are plugged and some Part 4 events are visually foreshadowed. Part 4 also has the positive of not drastically changing its art style part way through the anime and what details it cut out were very minor character interactions, so like Part 3 it's as good as an adaption can get.

Yeah. To add to that, I'd say the only real flaw of Part 4's adaptation beyond rushing the side stand users between the initial encounter with KIRA and the Bites the Dust portion is the way the animation could be wonky at times (like Killer Queen's first reveal), but the Bluray version remedies that to a degree iirc.

Part 3 as an adaption is incredibly slow, a good comparison is if you compare it to part 4. Part 4 in the manga is comprised of 19 volumes, while part 3 has 16 volumes. However, in the anime part 4 is 39 episodes long, while part 3 is 48 episodes long. The main reason for part 3's insane length is the fact that the stand fights were stretched out, fights which could end in 1 episode were now 2 episodes long. I'd say it's also partly because part 3 just adapts the manga panel by panel.

I will continue this soon. Don’t feel compelled to watch anime tho. The art in part 3 was giving me aid though.
