I don't know if Karin is all that. There's conflicting evidence on him.

Goku manages to catch the holy water from Karin and is visibly causing him trouble. If Karin were say 2x stronger than Goku there he would have been untouchable... Of course having to protect the water makes this more difficult, but the point still remains.

On the other hand, post-Tambourine Goku goes to Karin for further training, so Goku clearly thinks a lot of Karin to be asking for his help. But he became powerful enough to surpass Karin himself and render the training useless.

So it depends on how you take these situations. Goku might have just respected Karin as a martial arts master and never had a good grasp on his power given how they never fought head to head.

Why would he be relaxed? Goku is literally pressuring him? He knows exactly how strong Goku is as he's been fighting him for 3 days.

How did Roshi get the water from him at a similar level. Everyone of this level seems to be able to get it from Korin, that means this is the level nearing Korin. No other way to think about it.

I have my doubts that the training was the same as what Goku received. Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, Chaozu and Yajirobe were all present. There's no way they were all trying to steal the water on that tiny tower.

The problem with that is that Goku's level might have surpassed Roshi's for Korin's training. So this directly implies that Korin was the same level against Goku as he was against Roshi.
