You are suggesting Goku is using weakened attacks but he's also trying to damage himself but if the attacks are weakened he wouldn't damage himself.

DBS also shows Goku firing a Kamehameha at himself on King Kai's planet and stopping it.

Hm I’m not sure what to make of this example. Goku takes the blasts with his whole body and is barely standing up. Freeza took it with one hand.

Look at SPC vs Kid Gohan, SPC's amp probably wasn't a lot, but Gohan was defenseless.

Well it’s the RoF logic but without the stupid. You gotta pay attention to your surroundings. Gohan knew about the blast, but he thought he could reach Vegeta on time and didn’t defend himself. You gotta brace yourself in body and mind.

Goldilocks zone. Strong enough to hurt him, weak enough to not send him flying.

Goku is capable of killing himself with a max amped blast. He’s only alive because he held back.

Why Freeza he be in that zone? He’s not even taking the blast head on, he’s catching it. And he’s not really hurt. I mean he is, but that’s just “ouch it hurt”. Goku is “knocking on heaven’s door” hurt.

I mean Freeza can be in the Goldilocks zone of facing a blast near or slightly above his level without being moved back a notable distance.

It's not just the fact Freeza blocked it, but also the lack of damage. Goku was hoping it would do something, and other than making Freeza angry it did absolutely nothing.

Freeza also held onto it for quite a while. Goku immediately takes the full brunt of the blast.

I'm sure that's a factor too. Man, it's interesting to think about how ki blasts cause damage, this is creative thinking here.

What causes a blast to detonate? And what causes it to just push you?

Like Vegeta only survived the KKx4 because he was able to get off of it. But why didn't it detonate?

Why was Cell evaporated and others are not?

He is definitely more visibly dirtied and scratched and the anime has him say he was damaged.

Goku takes his blasts to the body while Freeza catches the x20 KHH so that can contribute to why Freeza was left in fighting shape while Goku wasn't.

That's just cosmetic damage though. It's just like how Recoome looks as bad as Vegeta and co. and he "hardly took any damage".

To be damaged "this much" can easily be just cosmetic damage.

Goku's statement is weird as balls. It implies that Freeza stopping the x20 KHH is evidence that he's using 50%, but to know Freeza's 50% would entail also knowing Freeza's 100%, but Goku wanted to see Freeza's 100% power later to know what he could do, which implies Goku did not know how big Freeza's 100% is.

It might alternatively imply that power not being surfaced is available to use for resisting attacks, which is counter to the concept of suppression lowering one's overall abilities like how Vegeta suppressed to allow Krillin to hurt him.
