This may be inaccurate because I only watched Battle of Gods when it was released in 2013, and I had no recollection of Goku going SSJ vs Beerus. I am pretty sure he absorbed SSJG and fought Beerus in base, however.

Goku Base is inferior to his SSJG status, but he is close enough to fight Beerus a bit. Then Goku transforms into SSJ and I think he gets a little stronger. Beerus claims that Goku SSJ has a power close to that of his SSJG.

Finally Beerus launched a Supernova in which Goku SSJ could not stop, until he reactivated the SSJG and managed to absorb it.

In FNF, a completely exhausted Golden Frieza is shown being superior to Goku and Base Vegeta, but I don't think it is by much.
