I can't believe anyone can say the anime is better than the manga, it's simply too much for me to handle.
Firstly, the manga of DBS adheres to the rules of the DB manga. Everything that happens in the DBS manga can be explained within the logic of the original manga, while the DBS anime is just bullshit at its finest.
Pros for the anime:
Hey I like transformations a lot and wow Trunks had his new form SSJ Rage and then wow Goku and Vegeta also had their rage boosts and I like that a lot mom and dad I want figurines of DB characters yeah!
Pros for the manga:
Plot-wise:
1. It broke the time paradox of Zamatsu doing what he did because of his fight with Goku when Goku only went to see Zamatsu because of the ring Black had in his hand. In DB timelines doesn't work like that, and they neither do in the anime.
2. It's actually explained why Black has zenkay powers while Goku and Vegeta don't.
3. It's actually explained why Black reaches his SSJ Rose without any ritual.
4. Trunks becoming Kaiohshin's disciple was relevant for the story.
5. Got deep in the time travel mechanics of the series, and I loved that.
Character-wise:
1. In terms of personalities, they were the characters I remember from the original series. Goku wasn't retarded like in the anime and he actually made very good points, Trunks wasn't the crybaby he had become in the anime but resembled his future z-self much more.
2. Speaking of retardeds, Black & Zamasu weren't retarded in the manga. In the anime humanity could hide in the fucking subway and escape Black like nothing. In the Manga this doesn't happen, in fact, both Black & Zamasu are perfectly believable characters with their own agenda, and it's even explained why could Trunks survive them that much time.
3. Trunks stayed at his SSJ2 form the whole saga and despite that he stood relevant. He was crucial in the fight, helping save Goku and Vegeta thanks to his surprise attacks, and then healing Goku thanks to his acquired powers from when he became a disciple of the KaiohShin.
4. KaiohShin had a very respectable role in this saga, in fact, I think this may be the best saga when it comes to secondary characters influencing a fight in a plausible way from the whole DB manga, only matched by the fight against Vegeta in the earth (which is one of my favourites, by the way).
5. SSJGod Vegeta. I loved it. Firstly because it puts an end to that bullshit from the anime where the SSJB was a form that could be obtained through training, secondly because despite being far below blue in power, it had its moments to shine and be practical in a fight against a stronger foe.
Power-scale:
1. Coherent with the internal rules of the series.
2. The SSJB was actually a relevant form. Yes, the SSJB being a joke in the anime is something that's not only because of the Goku Black saga, but seeing SSJ2 Trunks performing better against Zamatsu and Black than SSJB Goku helped to make this form even trashier than it already was. On the other hand, this form is the upgrade it should have been.
3. As a result of the above, we saw multiple ways to counter the SSJB weaknesses. Vegeta managing to adapt to the SSJB transformation, Goku managing to contain all the SSJB within his body. Of course Goku's way was the best (it's DB and Goku is the protagonist after all), but it at least gave Vegeta a nice moment to shine that was coherent with the series instead of the typical "my power magically increased a lot even when it doesn't make any sense plotwise".
4. In fact, even the SSJGod form was still relevant and very important, which I love. Firstly Goku used it to completely overpower future Trunks, then Vegeta used it in his fight against Rose proving his utility and Goku also used it to completely overpower immortal Zamatsu. Very well done all in all.
5. Because the manga followed the internal rules of the series, the fights were actually interesting. Yes, I understand that some people love seeing new transformations and by the face power-ups, but if you like that you better read Fairy Tail or One Piece and leave Dragon Ball alone, because when every scene or relevant fight gets solved by a by the face power-up then the fights become uninteresting. Why should I care about the outcome of a fight if I already know the author will do whatever he wants without having any respect with what's established before?
In the manga only Gohan had those kind of treatment, and besides it being done much better than in the anime -only 1 rage boost per fight, only when it was justified and with limitations not seen in the DBS anime- it wasn't abused as much as it was in the anime version of this black saga.
6. Why do I have to care if Goku got stabbed if in the next scene he will act as if nothing happened (or even getting stronger) at the scream of "you monsters killed chi-chi!". And since when is Goku such a retarded that can't even understand his family was killed after his body was robbed unless Black explains it to him? Yes, I know this isn't a new point, but the anime was so atrocious -every single episode had at least various by the face power ups and a bunch of contradictions- I had to say it twice.
All in all, while the anime managed for me to stop watching DBS for some episodes because of how tired I got of seeing constant ass-pulls here and there and was by far the worst saga of DB to me, the Goku Black saga in the DBS manga is one of my favourite manga sagas of DB for what it is.
I put it even above the Bu saga of the original manga, which was already above the 23rd budokay saga. In other words, a worthy saga for the series and the proof that this team of Toriyama + Toyotaro can do good, really good things.
PS: Why would Goku using the hakay be something negative? The hakay is something possible thanks to the godly ki, and Goku's god forms of course have god ki. How can this even be considered an "asspull", and how can someone say this was an asspull and at the same time defend the anime constant ass-pulls? I seriously can't understand that at all.
