A recent translation of an article by Toriyama from El Manga Legendario revealed a decent bit of trivia to clear up things about Nappa's lack of hair and Vegeta's line about Saiyan hair not changing from birth.

Akira Toriyama said:
For all practical purposes, Raditz had black hair simply because he was Goku’s brother. At one point in the story, Vegeta says that a Saiyan’s hair never grows. Although, of course, anyone could tell by looking at Raditz that it does. So let’s say that a Saiyan’s hair and beard grow slower when compared to Earthlings.

By the way, Nappa didn’t have hair on his head, but it’s not because he was bald, but rather because he had shaved his hair (which, in a way, protected his head) as a test of courage and with a defiant attitude. Speaking of which, Saiyans can also suffer from alopecia (laughs). The Saiyans are a warrior race and the reason for characterizing their hairstyle the way I did was to make it easy for readers to understand that everyone who had come to Earth had incredible strength, and by looking at them you could tell they must be a warlike race.

Pretty nice way of clearing up that questionable aspect along with things such as King Vegeta's beard, GT Vegeta's moustache, Goku and Vegeta's temporary beards in Super, etc. and doesn't really clash with what the manga presents when considering Vegeta may be unaware of how slow a rate a Saiyan's hair/facial hair grows and it can easily be assumed their head hair only grows up to a certain point. Also adds a little bit more to Nappa's character and Saiyan culture by giving them warrior displays similar to a lot of real life civilisations, as well as somewhat of an opposition to the more spiritual reasons martial artists like Kuririn shave theirs that helps highlight the whole skill/Ki control VS raw strength and talent dynamic of the Saiyan Arc.

The article also talks a little about Saiyan society and how it doesn't really have defined gender roles, though that much was apparent from the Bardock TV Special alone and become more so with more material to follow it.

I thought the El Manga Legendario was made in South America and not Shueisha?

It was made in Japan, but the only version available online is the Mexican one.

It’s just that when they make comments like Kaioshin = Cell Games Goku, it feels more like some fan made it and not from the original creators. I guess that’s not the case though. I wonder why we haven’t found the Japanese version, if there even is one.

That’s 4 notifications for me. Sounds like someone here really doesn’t like Kaioshin = Cell Games Goku :king

Normally, I'd delete those extra posts, but we've got to make it apparent how bad Shin = SSJ CG Galu is :manabu.

Seriously though, I wouldn't say that really makes its status as an official publication. The Daizenshuu and V-Jump issues feature a lot of contradictive entries such as Piccolo Daimao > Kami, Piccolo > Gohan's Masenko in the battle against Nappa, etc. or outright errors such as the Daizenshuu saying Tenshinhan was defeated by #19 or that Gero's power is roughly equal to #20's instead of #19's (assuming those two aren't just typos from Herms).

It's real to me, damn it!

I always assumed that was just Raditz's set length his hair grows back to and Goku/Vegeta had less length naturally. Surely if it grows slowly Vegeta at like 30 years old would already know it had been growing. And how fucking slow would it have to grow for Nappa to still be bald after spending like one year flying to Earth?

I wouldn't say the entry contradicts the idea of there being a set length for Saiyan hair in proportion to their body, though it obviously doesn't stay the exact length all their lives due to the growth of their head into adulthood (otherwise Goku would look balding in Z with his hair being only the same length it was as a kid), hence the comment on Raditz since his hair on his appearance would definitely be several times the size of his body at birth to say the least.

Definitely over a year when neither Vegeta nor Goku had any hair growth (including facial) in their Rosat trips and Vegeta went in twice over a short period. Taking the Super anime into account, they grew beards after 3 trips, so that's probably the minimum we're working with. It's also worth noting the pods act as suspended animation based on several accounts as well as Vegeta and Nappa not needing to eat the entire trip, so it's unlikely any hair growth would occur regardless of the time taken.

You guys didn't get my point. My issue isn't whether the comparison contradicts the manga or not, it's that it feels like some weird power comparison that a fan would make and not from the official publishers. For example, you probably wouldn't see the Daizenshuu say shit like ''Gohan has gotten weaker since he was a child but still surpasses Goku from 7 years ago'' or ''Base Goku is stronger than his Namek saga SSJ self but weaker than 1st form Cell'' type of stuff. Basically, guidebooks don't really go into specific details regarding a characters battle power the way the El Manga Legendario does. It feels more like something ahill would make. Does that make sense?
