Yeah because their primes were hyped to be something incredible. Rayleigh implied he could take on both and admiral and a Shikibukai at the same time. I'm not sure WB could to that alone in his older age. He seemed to have his fair share of trouble with just one.

I'm inclined to agree. Prime Rayleigh beats marineford whitebeard. I just think Rayleigh was that much stronger, and whitebeard got that weaker.
