Maaaaan it's been a while since I've watched an anime. The idea was spawned from Kyo's recent thread. It's on Netflix so I figured why not?

enjoy, it's visually appealing and the fights are generally good at the very least and there's some interesting things going on here n there thematically

It has great animation, though I personally wouldn't recommend it if looking for something substantial. The first season is basically a death tournament where the fighters find contrived ways of not killing each other, whilst the second season loses the appeal of not being forced to root for one side with the pushing of Kiritsugu being the main character and the ending having a pretty pretentious take on morality as expected of Urobutcher. It's not terrible, but not quite good. It will do as OK entertainment, especially considering if just wanting to take the easy route of Netflix you've already seen the good anime they have to offer, but it still stands that many series have it beat in it's areas of appeal.

Meh. I plan to watch a lot more anime come winter that may not be good, so whether or not this is a good one does not matter to me. It isn't a huge deal. I have a lot of time to waste in the near-future so I don't really care.

Side note - couldn't even begin watching it as my Netflix account became inactive for some reason.

Starting episode 1. Am either going to post questions for anyone who has potentially seen this, or might just be taking notes of plot so I can reference for memory.

So Kiritsugu (??) has dedicated his whole life to changing the world. Goal to make the world a place where anyone can smile. Wife says in exactly 8 years the world will change.

Refuses to hold his newborn child saying "I have no right". Wonder what he has done in his past.

The camera zooms in on tattoo on hand which likely has importance.

Aha. So the mark identifies you as a participant in the Holy Grail war and allows you to command a servant. Makes me wonder if Kitsurugu's wife is actually his servant? Who knows. My speculation is usually terrible.

The mark looks very similar to the ouroboros the homunculus had in FMA.

Not really surprised, considering the first episode is ~45 minutes of one giant infodump.

Jesus christ there is a lot being introduced early on. This will be a struggle to keep up.

The later episodes are a bit easier to follow. This show didn't know how to exposit any better so it just dumps nearly everything into your lap in the first episode (or first 2 episodes? I don't remember if the initial 45 minute "episode" counts as 1 or 2, probably 2). Even fans generally agree that this wasn't a good way to go about it.
