Question about Gurd vs Gohan and Krillin

Would throwing a tree at them really have been effective? I guess Vegeta coming in answers that, but these guys can tank bullets without paying attention. The idea of a big spear never seemed very threatening.

They can tank bullets and such if they can put a defense up. I assume that they can use ki to amplify their defenses, and Gurd's telekinesis made it so they couldn't use any muscles in their body. The spear would go through them as if they were a normal human.

Wouldn't a ki blast have worked just as well then? Why the shenanigans with the tree?

Perhaps Gurd cannot use ki attacks. He may be psychic only.

I even looked at all of his attacks, and there is no mention of ki being used in his attacks. Even time stop is labeled as psychic power only. I'd say it's a fair bet that he isn't good at using ki.

He has a flight aura in the games, so that would imply so.

Well Gurd was shown to be able to have flight aura in the manga as well. He probably used the tree just to make them suffer more for humiliating him.

Perhaps that's why they didn't get hurt. It was hard to know whether or not they should and could be damaged, so Vegeta was made to butt in. Makes things easier, even if cliché.

Perhaps hurling a tree at them consumes less ki than firing a blast at them outright? He has pretty terrible stamina based on him panting heavily after just jogging a bit while time was stopped. Flying with an aura probably qualifies as proof enough he has that aspect of ki control down, at least.
