Saiyans rapidly increase in strength as they fight against strong opponents, so the longer they fought, the more that gap would shrink, and it might even be possible for them to eventually turn the tables.

I don't have the link and if one can post it i'll be thankful, but we all know Mr Toriyama did say this. So, what do you guys think of this? Does the Saiyans actually grow stronger throughout their battles? Are there any examples of this?

Some believe Nappa was weaker than Goku initially (based on his reaction to 5k, being unable to see Goku move, and the embarrassing beatdown he received) and that he eventually reached a level where he was on par with him.

Outside of that, I can't think of any other example. The only thing said in the actual story is that Saiyans get stronger after every battle, and that the gain in power is higher if the opponent is stronger.

Nappa's one seems to insane. The way Toriyama words it implies the fighter gets slowly less one sided until the gap is closed. Nappa went from getting clowned to fighting toe to toe.

Thinking of fights in general, the gap never gets closed like that. Vegeta was getting worse and worse against Recoome, Goku had to fuck up Cell's stamina to close their gap, etc, etc.

The only time this really happened was on SSJG Goku vs Beerus. It never happened again on Super. Damn, Toriyama :troll

Canon: Saiyans grow stronger after recovering from a fatal battle wound.

Super: Saiyans grow stronger whenever AT wants to and he will say anything
to explain the shit his series turned into.

Goku Black fits the description perfectly if taking the statement literally. Though, this is logically because of an oddity caused by the unnatural combination of Zamasu's ki and Goku's body.

It's more a mix of Zenkais and fighting stronger opponents being good training. That is, until Super where the two may as well be one and the same. The quote in the OP was made after BoG iirc, so it has more ties to the Super canon retcons than the original manga.

That actually goes hand in hand with Toei's GT interpretation.

But that was due to Nappa not controlling his emotions and loosing control of his Ki. The reason he matched Goku was never implied to be him becoming stronger the more damage he receives (in fact, that's the opposite for every saiyan, the more injured the less strength they have like anyone else), but him controlling his nerves and fighting with a more calmed spirit.
The same explanation behind the power up between a regular SSJ and a FPSSJ btw.

Well, there doesn't have to be a clear distinction between those. The closer to death, the harder the workout.

Wow wait a moment here. Toei's fuck ups are not AT's responsibility at all.

The only sagas that have abused that "growing stronger during battles" were the Goku Black saga, and now the tournament saga.
The first one was totally fixed in that regard in the manga (supervised by AT, btw) and it went from pure shit (anime) to one of the best (manga), and the other one still hasn't had a single case of this happening, and as of this moment is fixing all the fuck ups Toei made at that point in the saga (like Krilin vs fucking SSJB Goku).
