So, it's been announced that a new anime will be released that will feature all current regions of the franchise, with more information coming on the 29th.

Hopefully, this means the anime will stop Ash's perpetual jobbing and reboot the anime with a more concise plot. Might be asking for too much and this might come too little too late after give or take 1,000 episodes of milking, but it's safe to say this will be a more worthwhile investment than the main anime's current state at least.

Will Ash still be in the series and this'll be some AU or are they going to go with Red and so forth? Maybe they'll adapt the manga.

I don't think they'll be adapting Special, I think this'll basically be a longer version of Generations.

Although if they DO want to adapt Special, I'm all for it. Anything's better than the current anime.

I doubt it'll focus on Ash, otherwise it'd just be the Sword and Shield anime. This seems like it'll either be a reboot of the anime or a more game-faithful story.

Does this mean they will be suspending the old anime after the Sun & Moon season, rather than both shows running concurrently?

Because from a narrative standpoint, Ash winning a league is very, very overdue, and him becoming the first champion of Alola as in the games would be at least a decent sendoff for his character (bastardized as it already is).

I thought they'd just run at the same time. Even-though considering how much Pokémon ratings have fallen, I wonder. Merchandise sales (and probably especially Pikachu related because of the anime) are probably good though.

I just thought they might have another series with Ash where he actually reaches achieves all his dreams.

I think after they did another reboot of the Kanto season of the anime, among other things like that Mewtwo 3D movie, they realized a lot of fans no longer care for Ash's bullshit (esp after that humiliating Kalos League loss).

Although I no longer read Special, it would've been pretty cool to see it animated, especially since it's already covered all 7 of the regions so far and has a rather large fanbase.

As of yet, it's unknown since information beyond the title being the same as the original 1997 series and all regions being in it leaves much to speculate until we get more concrete information on the 29th.

Most likely, they'll run together at different times for extra milking, though I've heard the Sun and Moon anime has done some bait-and-switches when it comes to Ash's League jobbing and could be setting up the Alola League as where his story concludes. Would make sense, considering the Sun and Moon animu has had a lot of callbacks to where things started such as the temporary return of Brock and Misty or the 20th anniversary edition of Mezase Pokemon Master being the opening theme for a while.

In fairness, Mezase Pokemon Master got used as the second Johto opening theme among a bunch of other bullshit that really didn't mean anything. Still, I hope the old anime ends before this one begins so we don't get a half-assed budget, because if my helping :autism on his Pokemon fanfiction is of any indication, I have long since wanted a proper, well-written adaptation of the original games that isn't just 1000 episodes of repetition.

What stories do the Pokémon games have? Isn't it just wanting to win the League with some Team-Rocket world-domination stuff on the side?

Also I thought the last 3 movie were that way because box-office wise the last movie tanker or something, so they went with something other than the usual formula. Well the first one was a 20th anniversary movie.

To an extent, though the concepts, themes and characters tend to be far more varied than the main anime. For instance, Black/White's focus on questioning the morality of Pokemon battling or Gen 7 taking some unique choices when it came to characters such as Lusamine or Lily.

That, and it's a lot more tolerable to have alternating protagonists that have a concise payoff to their journey rather than seeing a protagonist journey to most of the regions and still never win an official league, not to mention the anime having backed out of events such as Dialga/Palkia/Giratina's summoning at Spear Pillar or Xerneas/Yveltal's role in X/Y.

The anime also never covered the disbanding of Team Rocket in the Silph Co. battle or the Radio Tower event in Johto, for obvious reasons.

Sounds good. I didn't really know (or maybe remember) that.

The perfect time to have ended the anime'd have been Diamond & Pearl if you were going to. Ending it with this Alola sheet is just sad even for Ash.

Ash vs. Paul would've been pretty awesome if it were the final match of the Sinnoh League actually. (Reminded me of Red vs. Blue/Green in the Special manga actually.) That Tobias battle was AIDS. Faggot should work as an Uber driver with the amount of haxed Uber Pokemon he was using lmfao

Sinnoh was probably also Ash's peak in terms of strategic battling and general character development, apart from arguably his X/Y self prior to losing the league. Would've been better to end his story there rather than regressing him down to his Kanto self's competence in Black/White.

Yeah, I'd say Diamond & Pearl is probably my favourite alongside the original but if I were to look objectively it'd probably DP > Original.
